Inspiration from WWI Naval Camouflage

Commissioned by Greek art collector Dakis Joannou, 'Guilty' is a floating canvas. Jeff Koons drew inspiration from the British Admiralty's World War I 'Dazzle' camouflage scheme, originally developed by Norman Wilkinson to confuse enemy submarine periscopes about a ship's heading and speed.

Artistic & Geometric Complexity

The pattern consists of bold yellow, blue, black, and white polygons hand-painted across the aluminum superstructure. The visual result creates an optical illusion where the vessel appears to shift shape as it moves across the Aegean Sea.

Interior Modernism

Inside, the vessel houses world-class contemporary artworks by Sarah Morris, Anish Kapoor, and David Shrigley, paired with minimal white walls and floor-to-ceiling panoramic glass windows.
